A community’s integrity is measured by the way in which it cares for the weak and vulnerable people in its midst. Helpmekaar is a community institution from the community in support of the community. By establishing sustainable structures, churches, schools, employers, institutions and the broader community are mobilised to create a healthy environment where every individuals can live and work. Dependence is limited by helping people to take responsibility for solving their own crises.  

Helpmekaar has two qualified social workers, as well as a counsellor. There is particular focus on community development by undertaking certain projects, for example the bully project or the week for the elderly. Families that are in material need, are supported by subsidising their children’s school fees and providing social service to vulnerable people. All along all assistance is provided with great caution and only after thorough evaluation.
