The value of good housing, may never be underestimated. Not only does it offer security of tenure to people, but it also plays a key role in how they experience their self worth. As far back as 1998 the fathers of Orania decided to establish Gousblom Ontwikkeling to not only develop subeconomic housing, but also to manage it. Affordable high-quality housing for people who form part of the labour force remains one of the cornerstones on which a healthy community can grow and develop.

Gousblom Ontwikkeling manages among other things Elim that accommodates 36 single men, and Nerina that accommodates 11 single ladies. Soetdoering has 12 two-bedroom flats where families can be accommodated. Under the direction of Helping Hand, that has a managing share in Gousblom, 64 new three-bedroom flats are being built. Olienhout, like the development is known, is a live monument as proof of how a community can create not only accommodation, but a home for its residents.
